Commanding the Narrative Update #53
On Saturday, February 21, I joined Councillor Adam Zahra, Katy McCallum of Let's Rethink Renewables, Stuart Bonds and Sean Bell of One Nation and the local community of the Central West Orana Renewable Energy Zone (CWOREZ) to tour the region and experience first-hand the reckless rollout of renewable energy projects throughout the area.
Witnessing the scale and impact of these projects made me angry. As I stood looking out over our beautiful Australian landscape, it made my blood boil that incompetent halfwits like Chris Bowen and Matt Keen are hell-bend on carpeting these areas with industrial-scale wind and solar projects.
The Central West Orana REZ is the first of five renewable energy zones to be rolled out in New South Wales. Energy Co's own documents describe these REZs as 'the equivalent of modern day power stations'.
That is an incredible statement when you consider the scale of these projects - the CWOREZ alone is slated to cover 20,000sqkm and engulf the towns of Dubbo, Dunedoo, Mudgee, Wellington, Coolah and more.
In short, the scale and impact of these projects left all those on the tour heartbroken at what is being done to our precious rural landscapes, productive farmland and valuable local communities.
The purpose of the tour was to better understand the impact of the renewable projects on the community and to hear the stories and concerns of locals and impacted farmers and property owners.
To document these stories, I interviewed some of these farmers, property owners and concerned community leaders and produced the below recount.
I encourage you all to watch the footage and to share it far and wide. We believe that every Australian needs to hear the heartbreaking stories of those impacted by the Central West Orana Renewable Energy Zone.
That evening, Let's Rethink Renewables, in conjunction with a host of national and local community action groups, hosted the 'Reality of Renewables' Community Town Hall in Dunedoo.
The Town Hall was an opportunity for Senator Bell and Stuart Bonds to convey what they had witnessed during the tour and to take questions from locals in the audience. You can watch the footage of the Town Hall below.
This is the first Commanding the Narrative update email in many weeks as I migrate over to new email platforms.
